CM Mohan Yadav announces key support measures for cops, families on Police Commemoration Day

Bhopal, Oct 21 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday announced significant decisions in favour of police personnel and the families of martyrs, underscoring the state government’s commitment to their welfare.

Addressing the state-level Police Commemoration Day Parade 2026 at the Martyrs’ Memorial complex in Lal Parade Ground, the Chief Minister said the government provides financial assistance to the families of martyred police personnel, with 50 per cent of the amount going to the spouse and the remaining 50 per cent to the parents.

He also reiterated the government’s decision to ensure timely promotions of police personnel and recruitment of new staff to strengthen the force.

CM Yadav paid rich tributes to the nine police officers and personnel from Madhya Pradesh who laid down their lives while discharging their duties.

He received the salute from the parade, accepted the roll of honour and laid a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial. Contingents of the District Police, Special Armed Force (including men’s and women’s platoons), Home Guards, pall-bearer party, colour party, police band, mounted unit and dog squad participated in the solemn event.

Patriotic tunes by the police band filled the air as tributes were paid.

Highlighting a major achievement, the Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh has successfully eradicated the menace of Naxalism that had plagued the state for nearly 35 years.

He credited the valiant efforts of police personnel and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for this historic success, calling it a moment of immense pride for the state.

CM Yadav underlined the critical role of the police and armed forces in safeguarding national security, peace and social order.

He said the Tricolour, from Lal Chowk to the Red Fort, symbolises India’s self-respect and the immortal sacrifices of its brave personnel. Even amid global challenges, India’s democracy remains secure due to the unwavering commitment, he added.

Director General of Police Kailash Makwana said the Madhya Pradesh Police have a glorious history of service across the country.

Expressing deep condolences to the families of the nine martyrs this year, he emphasised that these families are an integral part of the police family and looking after them is a moral responsibility.

Police service, he noted, is a commitment defined by responsibility, dedication and sacrifice.

The Chief Minister concluded the event by bowing to all martyrs and expressing gratitude to every police personnel working tirelessly for the nation’s security, while urging the force to continue meeting emerging challenges such as cybercrime and drug trafficking.
