Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), 14th May 2023: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet today approved a proposal seeking to waive the interest on the farmer loans in the state.

The official press release confirmed that that the approval came during a cabinet meeting. The proposal is to grant an amount of INR 2123 crore to benefit over 11.9 lakh defaulter farmers of the state. All the farmers whose loan amounts and interest collectively are below INR 2 lakh would be benefitted from this scheme.

This comes as CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the government would be depositing the interest amounts in the bank accounts of the aggrieved farmers.

Defaulter farmers must apply to participate in this plan, and cooperatives must publish a list of such individuals on a website.

Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed that numerous farmers had not repaid farm debts because of a waiver issued by the previous Congress government. He had accused Congress of failing to fulfil the farm loan waiver promise, causing farmers to default.
