New Delhi (21/12/2019): It was Friyay indeed for the capital’s enthusiastic fandom community. The Day 1 of Maruti Suzuki Arena Delhi Comic Con 2019 turned out to be a pop culture heaven at NSIC Grounds. The event was packed with a massive gathering of ardent fans lining up to buy artwork from their favourite illustrators, resting their nostalgia on copies of Raj comics and posing avidly dressed up as their favourite superhero.
Biggest of all editions, Delhi Comic Con’s opening day was a star-studded sight and gave fans a chance to meet and greet popular international artists; Bill Golliher, artist and storyteller of all-time favourite Archie Comics; Illustrator Chad Hardin of DC Comics and Harley Quinn fame and Asian American artist/designer Bernard Chang who illustrated books for Marvel, DC Comics and is currently drawing DC Universe Presents: Deadman, which is part of the new DC 52 relaunch. The crowd gathered for a special session on day 1 by Golliher who spoke at length about his work on Archie comics and creating the very special “Archie in the Incredible Comic Con India” edition.
Later on, the fans were thrilled by a power-packed dance performance by Delhi’s Misba Crew and a stand-up gig by Shreeja Chaturvedi. Classic Collective and Beatboxer Ish, mentalist Karan Singh, comedian Abish Mathew and Rahul Dua will be joining them in the next two days.
Delhi’s fandom community was treated to yet another surprise by India’s largest comics publishing house, Raj Comics announcing the silver screen adaptation of its popular comic-book series, Nagaraj (Snake king) from the 80s for which negotiations with actor Ranveer Singh to play the lead are in process. Fans were also seen eagerly assembled near the stalls of Team Bakarmax and Vivek Goel to get their hands on the latest volume of his bestsellers, Age of Immortals & Shaitan. The comic convention also hosted other popular content creators from India like Rahil Mohsin, Shubham (Corporat Comics), Sailesh Gopalan, Ravi (Bullseye Press), Bhaghya Babu, Abhijeet Kini and Saumin Patel.
Excited about the successful conclusion of the first day, Jatin Varma, Founder of Comic Con India, said, “After successfully concluding the epic pop culture gala across multiple cities this year, we are finally here from where it all started. It was an exhilarating Day 1 at the Delhi edition and we felt extremely accomplished watching this acquire such a remarkable stature. Thanks to the city’s pop culture enthusiasts, so far we are living up to all their expectations. Eagerly waiting to ring in the next two days with some more surprises, performances, gaming, anime and cosplay showcase.”
