Commencement Ceremony at DPS R.K.Puram
DPS R.K.Puram held its Commencement Ceremony on 28 January 2017 to felicitate the outgoing batch of Class 12 students of 2017. This was the first time that such an event was organized in the school.
The Chief Guest was the Chairman of the DPS Society, Mr.V.K.Shunglu. The Guest of Honour was Mr.Vikas Swarup, famous writer and diplomat and the Additional Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal warmly welcomed the guests and the parents. Addressing the audience, she spoke about the importance of the occasion and how it was the beginning of a journey and asked the students to cherish the memories of their time in school. Also present were the Vice Principals, Dr. Renu Nayar, Ms. Padma Srinivasan, and Ms. Anita Singh.
The Chairman, Mr.Shunglu asked the students to be ‘true to themselves’ in whatever they did in life. The Guest of Honour, Mr.Swarup shared various interesting and humourous anecdotes of his life. He talked about the creative process and the importance of being curious to learn and to show compassion towards others. According to him, ‘Creativity’ is present in everyone, and the students just need to tap it.
After a musical performance by the school’s western music choir, the toppers from each stream were invited on stage to deliver the valedictory speeches. These were Vanshika Arora from the Science stream, Satvik Goel from the Commerce and Isha Goel from Humanities. The speeches were interspersed with the Indian vocal choir compositions.
The guests released the Yearbook of the Class 2017. Then came the moment everyone was waiting for – the felicitation of the students as they marched to the stage in the beautiful scarves and pins especially designed for them. They were presented with a scroll and a copy of the yearbook. Mr Vikas Swarup presented the students with a lamp signifying knowledge and learning, which was passed amongst the students and finally placed on a wall of lamps.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Vice Principal, Ms.Padma Srinivasan who thanked the guests and the organizers of the programme and wished the students the best for the future. The programme ended with the national anthem.
“Thus, the school has created a new chapter in the history of Education, where we don’t bid farewell to them, they are and will always remain a part of the school. We felicitate them, prepare them and wish them for a brighter future ahead”, concluded Principal, Ms.Vanita Sehgal.
