Complacency behind latest Covid spike: UP CM Yogi Adityanath & AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath received his first jab of the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday in the state’s capital city of Lucknow.
“I thank the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and the Union health ministry for making the vaccine available free of cost. I also thank the scientists of the country. The vaccine is completely safe. We all should take it when our turn comes,” said the CM in a tweet.
When asked about what has caused the latest spike of Covid, Adityanath blamed complacency of people in observing Covid behaviour. “I appeal to the people to take all precautions even after taking the vaccine,” he said.
AIIMS chief Dr Randeep Guleria shared similar thoughts when asked by the Indian Express about the cause of latest spike in Covid cases.
“The degree of fear or panic that was there when we had crossed the 80,000-mark last time does not seem to exist today. There is no Covid-appropriate behaviour. Despite the numbers crossing the 80,000-mark, people are planning holidays, hotels are full at all hill stations,” Guleria said.
