New Delhi, August 10, 2023: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra took a pointed jab at the public broadcaster Sansad TV as she prepared to deliver her speech in the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament.

Moitra, known for her outspoken stance, expressed her skepticism towards the broadcaster’s impartiality, saying, “Am wearing a bright pink and green saree just in case shameless biased @sansad_tv focuses elsewhere during my speech.”

This follows her allegations on Wednesday that Sansad TV exhibited bias by disproportionately focusing on BJP speakers during the no-confidence motion debate, while minimizing coverage of opposition leaders.

In a separate context, Moitra criticized Union Minister Smriti Irani’s response to allegations of sexual harassment against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh, questioning Irani’s priorities.

Moitra’s remarks came in the wake of a controversy involving Congress MP Rahul Gandhi allegedly making an inappropriate gesture by blowing a flying kiss in the Lok Sabha after his speech. This led to a heated exchange, with Irani accusing Gandhi of indecent behavior.

Demanding action against Gandhi, NDA women MPs wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla, stating, “We demand stringent action against such behavior by the Member, which has not only insulted the dignity of women members in the House, it has also brought disrepute and lowered the dignity of this august House.”

Moitra’s criticisms highlight the ongoing debates and tensions within the parliamentary session, as various MPs engage in discussions on important matters.

The controversies raise questions about decorum and fairness within the parliamentary proceedings, emphasizing the need for respectful conduct and unbiased coverage in the public eye.
