CONGRESS PARTY WILL START AGITATIONS AGAINST POWER AND WATER WOES – MUKESH SHARMA.
NEW DELHI, June 1 – The Congress party has started agitations and Chackajam to find a solution against the difficulties being faced by the people due to unscheduled power cuts and the struggle to get even a drop of drinking water. The party has also decided to quicken the agitation through large public meetings by reaching out to the party workers and the common people. In this connection, starting the agitation from the Arya Samaj Road in Uttam Nagar, senior Congress leader and chief spokesperson of the DPCC Shri Mukesh Sharma addressed a massive public meeting of party workers and the office-bearers of the Residents’ Welfare Associations, and announced this decision.
At a meeting of the Congress MLAs and Ex. MLAs held under the leadership of DPCC President Shri Arvinder Singh, a resolution was passed to thank Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi for the effective election campaign during the parliamentary elections. In an other resolution it was decided that Congress Party once again reiterated that the Congress will not extend its support to BJP B Team Aam Aadmi Party.
A resolution was passed at the Arya Samaj Road public meeting, condemning the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP, holding them responsible for the power and water woes in Delhi. In another unanimously-passed resolution termed Shri Arvind Kejriwal as power hungry, and it was decided not to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party in the coming Assembly elections, as Shri Kejriwal was fully responsible for the power and water woes in Delhi. Thousands of Congress workers and prominent citizens of the area participated in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Shri Mukesh Sharma said the Congress Party had always worked for the all-round development of Delhi. He recalled that during the BJP rule in Delhi from 1993 to 1998, there were fights due to the shortage of power and water. But after the Congress came to power, power cuts were totally eliminated, and the people of Delhi started getting power without break for 24 hours. He also recalled that when the Congress was in power, the demand for power was less than 2000 megawatt. He said due to the Congress Party’s efficient administration, Delhi was rid of power cuts, but it has now become history.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said as a first step of the agitation, the Congress Party has decided to meet the Lt. Governor on Monday. He said a delegation led by DPCC president Shri Arvinder Singh, and consisting of prominent citizens, will meet Lt. Governor Dr Najeeb Jung and brief him about the power and water woes. The delegation will also strongly take up the issue of sealing of industrial units in residential areas, particularly in East Delhi, by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Shri Mukesh Sharma said the BJP MLA from Uttam Nagar was totally alienated from the people after the Assembly elections, and there was rule of the jungle raj in the area. He said work on laying a 238-km long sewer line has been completely stopped, and the lanes where sewer lines were laid, have been left without carpeting the streets. Because of that, people are living in a hell. He said people were fed with the power and water woes in Bindapur and Mohan Garden. He said the BJP MLA was trying to make payment to the contractor without laying of roads. He said works on the Valmiki Chaupal at Nawada Village and the multi-storey Barat Ghar at Mohan Garden have been stopped due to forceful bribe-taking.
