Cops set up peace panels in all stations

Gurgaon: ‘Peace committees’ have been formed in all police stations across the district. The Gurgaon Police said the committees, comprising representatives of all 36 communities, have been constituted to help maintain law and order in the wake of the Jat agitation. The district administration has also reached out to all panchs and sarpanchs in villages to help keep the situation peaceful.

The peace committees will be responsible for getting in touch and coordinating with their respective communities to resolve conflicts among themselves and the government.

The first meeting was organised on Wednesday in all police stations, wherein station house officers (SHO) shared their contacts with the members of the committee.
“The peace committees have been formed in all police stations. They are choosing influencial people from almost all communities and keeping them on guard to ensure no outward incident, protest or obstruction of traffic, takes place in their jurisdiction. There is no conflict in Gurgaon so far, but we are not taking any chances,” said police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk.
