Cracker ban violators to get Rs 200 fine, 6 month jail in Delhi

New Delhi, 19 October 2022: Today Environment Minister, Gopal Rai has warned that despite the Delhi government’s ban on using firecrackers during Diwali in Delhi, if people still manage to obtain some, they would land up in jail.

The Delhi govt has imposed a Rs 200 fine and 6 months jail term for buying and deploying crackers across the national capital

Gopal Rai further stated that a three-year prison penalty would be imposed on anyone found manufacturing, maintaining, or selling fireworks in Delhi. They will also be fined Rs 5,000 in accordance with Section 9B of the Explosives Act.

“The Delhi administration has sent up a total of 408 teams to enforce the ban in Delhi to make sure it is upheld and that the air quality does not worsen during the festival and the winter season,” he further stated.

While the Revenue Department has established 165 teams, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee has formed 33 teams, and the Delhi Police has 210 teams operating under assistant commissioners of police.

Rai also announced that on October 21, “Diye Jalao Patakhe Nahi,” a public awareness campaign, will begin. On Friday, 51,000 diyas will be lit at Central Park in Connaught Place by the Delhi government.

The Delhi minister reported that as of October 16 there had been 188 cases of infractions and 2,917 kg of firecrackers had been seized.
