Cutting of trees continues in National Capital Despite SC, NGT Ban , NGO reveals shocking facts

New Delhi: Delhi High Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT) court on July 4, 2018 ordered National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) and Central Public Work department not to cut any tree till further notice in Delhi, however, cutting of trees continue unabated.

An NGO Citizens4trees conducted an inspection in South and Central Delhi area like Sarojni Nagar, Netaji nagar, Tyagraj Nagar to check the reality of court’s ruling, however, the truth was shocking. Despite Delhi SC and NGT ban, the trees are being uprooted.
The photos and videos from the spot proved the violation. Tress are being chopped off at night by leaving no proof. ¬‘The violators using different tricks to remove the trees. They are putting debris on the roots of tress or sometimes putting acid on the trees,

so, the trees can die and they can easily cut it,’ claimed, Citizens4trees convenor Prerna Prasad to Ten News.
As the issue to cutting 16,500 trees in South and Central Delhi for development sake came to light, locals hit the roads against the move and hold protests to save the trees. Later, while hearing the case, Delhi High Court and NGT court put ban on cutting of trees on July 4, 2018.
Citizens4trees convenor Prasad further said, ‘Even forest officers from DCF South went along with Citizens4trees patrolling team to verify the violation. However, forest officers took the photographs of the trees which are choked under the construction debris issued notice to NBCC against the violation of court ruling.’
‘Later, we have also registered four cases in the nearby police station, however, no action has been taken yet,’ she added.
It is worth mentioning that Delhi is one of the most polluted city in the world and Union and State government facing heat for failing in curbing pollution.
