*After the concept of green farming, the revolution getting surface in the
country in the field of agriculture is that of ‘Organic Farming”. While
most of the medical problems and new diseases striking quiet frequently,
need to adopt Organic Farming is strongly felt. In order to discuss the
issue in detail, *a National level Panel Discussion entitled, “Organic
Farming – A step towards make in India” was organised at DAV Centenary
College Faridabad. Department of Marketing and PG Commerce of the college
organized the event. The Green initiative was taken by the Principal Dr.
Satish Ahuja and head of the Marketing and PG Commerce, Associate
Professor, Dr. (Mrs.) Jyoti Rana. Dr. Rana has recently completed a UGC
sponsored Major Research Project exploring marketing opportunities for
Organic Food. This initiative for the social cause seems to be an extension
to her previous research work to aggravate organic movement. The Chief
Guest of the Discussion was Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC),
Faridabad, IAS, Mr. Aditya Dahiya. Mr. Dahiya expressed his appreciation
for the efforts being taken by DAV College in the direction of going Green.
He stated that the information generated through this panel discussion is
truly educational for solving the problems of our farmers. Principal Dr.
Satish Ahuja congratulated Dr. Jyoti Rana for the revolutionary initiative
taken for the welfare of mankind.

A nine member panel was constituted including Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Deputy
Director, NCOF; Ms. Nandini Gulati, Holistic Health Coach from Sharan; Mr.
Adarsh Panwar, a National awardee organic farmer, Mr. Ishit Pilani,
entrepreneur, organic express; Mr. Shailendra, CEO, Benor organics, Mr.
Ajay Tripathi from Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM); Mr. Moorthy, founder of
farmers’ market and Dr. Dinesh Kumar, principal scientist, IARI, Department
of Agronomy, Pusa institute. A large number of audiences comprising organic
retailers, indigenous organic farmers, consumers and students took part in
the discussion. Besides Sarvoday Hospital, Faridabad; Rotary Club,
Faridabad and Women Entrepreneurship Council (WEC) also participated in the
event. The main agenda of the panel discussion was to address the problems
of the organic farmers, channel partners and customers in bringing Organic
food in the mainstream with the help of community.

The step is really appreciable because we, the people of India, sitting in
metros don’t know the ground realities of the farmers. It is easy to say
that producing organic crop is good for us, but what are the factors
deterring its spread all over the country has to be seen. DAV might have
taken the first step, but other intellectuals, academicians, scientists,
people from administration and the masses, should treat this as a wakeup
call and further steps to be taken to insist on acceptability of organic
farming at the end of farmers.
