New Delhi, 5 September 2022: Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has served a notice to the BJP-led municipal corporation requesting an explanation for the “poor” performance of basic schools within two weeks.

The National Achievement Survey (NAS) report 2021 for Class 3 was cited by the DCPCR to highlight the caliber of instruction and learning in municipal schools.

The inquiry notice read that “The NAS Class-3 results paint a dismal picture of teaching and learning in municipal schools, which rank Delhi amongst the lowest 5 performing states in India.”

It also stated, “the Class-3 results of Municipal Corporation of Delhi are below the national average in all three subjects: Language, Maths, and Environmental Studies. The average state score for Class 3 in the language is merely 52 percent while the national average is 62 percent.”

While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including the party’s chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj, live-streamed their visit to the schools on social media platforms earlier. They also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for questioning the Delhi government’s spending on the construction of its schools and highlighted the “poor condition” of the buildings, classrooms, restrooms, and campuses.

After the AAP MLAs live-streamed their “poor condition” on social media, the MCD refuted the claim that the condition in its schools is “poorer than those run by the municipal government.”

The civic body also taunted that the youngsters had to “suffer a rude break to the pleasant rhythm of their learning process” as a result of the “intrusion by a group of 30-40 adults” into the schools.
