New Delhi, Dec 11, 2022: On Sunday, Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta resigned from his post after his party’s defeat in the recently held Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

“Taking the responsibility of the defeat, I have given my resignation to the national president,” said Gupta.

The top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party has accepted the resignation. The AAP brought an end to BJP’s 15-year rule as the former party claimed 134 of 250 MCD wards, the results of which were declared last week.

The BJP lost the MCD polls
to AAP managing to clinch 104 wards. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that ‘heavy BJP machinery’ was deployed during campaigning made the MCD polls the toughest election contested by the Aam Aadmi Party so far. AAP further labeled allegations against the party that they employed media to spread propaganda.

The AAP leaders have also accused the BJP of making efforts to poach councillors of the party amidst speculations that the BJP may make efforts to get its mayor elected in the MCD House.
