The policy was earlier approved by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) at its 16th meeting held on April 11.

The new policy states that attempts would be made to rehabilitate the eligible slum dwellers at the same or nearby location.

“The thrust of the policy is in-situ rehabilitation, using land as a resource and relocation will be resorted only as an exception. Attempts will be made to rehabilitate the eligible slum dwellers at the same location or within a radius of five kilometres”, read an official statement of the Delhi government.

In order to be eligible for rehabilitation, the name of the slum dweller must exist in at least one of the electoral rolls of 2011-2015.

“Electricity bill will also be considered for the purpose of proof of residence,” the statement added.

The policy further states that DUSIB will function as the nodal agency for the new policy.
