Delhi Convenor Dilip Pandey inspects damaged crops in Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Convenor of AAP Delhi, Shri Dilip Pandey conducted an inspection of farms damaged on account of the  unseasonal rain and hailstorms. Nangal, Bazitpur, Qutabgarh, Tatessare, Jyonti and Nizampur villages were visited.

All the farmers were forlorn as the crop damage this year seems to be even greater that it was during the last unseasonal rains. Dilip Pandey walked through many farms to assess the extent of crop damage. Vegetable farming has taken a real beating and onion & spinach farms have been totally destroyed. The farmers showed the AAP teams samples of the ruined crops – wheat and mustard farms have been damaged beyond repair.

Many farmers’ associations gave Dilip Pandey written appeals for help. They said that they have no faith in the BJP and Congress who make false promises and never return. Pandey assured the farmers that he has been sent by the Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal as the Delhi government understood the seriousness of the plight of the farmers who had lost everything due the frailties of the weather and the complete absence of any pragmatic insurance coverage.  He would report immediately to the government and help frame a substantial and speedy solution.

Dilip Pandey also came across the predicament of landless farmers who pay advances to landowners to farm on their lands. Whenever compensation is received from the government, it goes to the land owner – and the landless farmer who has actually paid an advance to the landowner is left with a double whammy. Pandey held a discussion with the village elders to find a way to ensure that the compensation goes to the right persons. The villagers volunteered that they would examine each claim, and if a landless farmer could provide reasonable number of witnesses to back his claim, they would ensure that the compensation goes to the landless farmer and not the landowner. This discussion vindicated AAP’s belief that if common people are consulted they come out with the most practical solutions and voluntarily work for the common good.

The Aam Aadmi Party is committed to protect those who feed us and we will ensure that we do everything possible for those who have lost their annual income due to the vagaries of the agriculture industry in India. Dilip Pandey said it is our unwavering belief that no farmer must be allowed to reach the desperate situation that makes him lose hope, and he would work with the Government to facilitate prompt relief for the farmers of Delhi.
