New Delhi: The Delhi government has been keenly looking into extending benefits to the students who cannot afford the educational expenditure. Keeping its goal in mind, the government had made sure that all the students get the benefit of the Jay Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana. However, to make it more accessible for the students, the government is planning to launch an online portal for it.

After a meeting with officials here on Thursday, Minister of Social Welfare Rajendra Pal Gautam said the online portal would reduce the time and effort to verify documents, like income and case certificates. “It will also ensure timely release of payment to the coaching institutes,” he said.

To ensure that the benefit is received by the right candidate, the Ministry is also looking for possibilities to check enrolment of a particular students under the scheme by different empanelled coaching institutes.

Further, it is also planning to transfer the stipend directly into the bank accounts of students through PFMS and for monitoring the students’ attendance, biometric method is being considered.

The Delhi cabinet had taken an important decision in this regard on September 3, to include students of Other Backward Caste (OBCs) and general category in the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana and also to increase the financial assistance from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh for coaching of competitive examinations.

The Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, launched last year, is aimed at providing free coaching to SC/ST students in preparation for examinations conducted by UPSC, DSSSB, SSC, Railway Recruitment Board and others.

Apart from this, the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had recently revealed the plan to form a separate education board for Delhi. It will not be a replacement for the CBSE but a next generation board to help students prepare for entrance examinations like JEE and NEET.

The idea behind forming the board is to fulfil the needs of the students who prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams. The new board will resolve the problem of school students as the board will help them prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams without having to seek help of coaching centres.
