New Delhi, 14 August 2022: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has given 187 daily wages Swachhta Sainiks, the status of regular workers with the civic body.

About 187 sanitation workers employed between 1998 and 2000 received their regularisation letters from Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday during a ceremony held at the Aruna Asaf Ali Auditorium.

At the event, Saxena also noted that the occasion was important because India will soon celebrate 75 years of independence. He also remembered his promise to the sanitation workers, when the MCD launched a cleanliness campaign throughout Delhi on June 14 and assured the sanitation workers that their issues would be rectified.

“The wait of almost 22 years is over as 187 Swachhta Sainiks are being regularised today. In the future, the MCD would regularise the remaining daily wagers/substitutes sanitation workers against the vacant posts in a phased manner,” LG Saxena said.

He asserted that the Swachhta Sainiks’ contribution is crucial to attaining the objective of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled on October 2, 2014. He continued, “It is our duty to see to the welfare of the sanitation army.”
