New Delhi, Dec 7, 2022: The AAP has won the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD election), overtaking the BJP which has been in power in the civic body for 15 years. In the 250-member civic body, Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has clinched victory by winning 132 seats, well past the halfway mark. Meanwhile, the BJP has 103 seats. Congress emerged victorious in six wards.

In a public address after the win, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Kejriwal said, “I would like to thank all the people of Delhi for voting for us in the MCD. The citizens of Delhi have conferred upon us the responsibility of Delhi’s civic body.”

“Delhi’s people gave us the responsibility of bettering schools and we succeeded. They trusted us with improving hospitals, we did that too. Then they voted for us to bring about free education and free electricity, and we delivered on our promise. Now they have trusted us with the civic amenities in the city. We will not let them down,” he added.

“My appeal to all party members is that now we should focus on the work. Elections are done and our focus should now be on the work to be carried out. Now, work and dedication for improving the city is what is needed,” noted the AAP chief.
