Delhi Police arrests sweeper for allegedly raping 87-year-old elderly woman

February 15, New Delhi: A 30-year-old sweeper has been arrested by Delhi Police on Tuesday for allegedly raping an 87-year-old bedridden woman after breaking into her house in Tilak Nagar of West Delhi.

He entered the house on the pretext of being employed with a gas agency and was called for work, according to police.

The victim stays with her daughter (65) & the incident took place on Sunday night when the elderly woman was home alone & her daughter was out for a walk.

Upon her return, finding her mother bleeding from her nose, she immediately called up people and informed her relatives about the incident.

According to Delhi police, The case of sexual assault of an elderly lady in Tilak Nagar has been solved & the culprit in this blind case has been nabbed within 16 hours.
Further adding that the accused lives in nearby locality & works as a sweeper moreover victim’s Mobile phone has been recovered from him.

Delhi Police on Tuesday taking to Twitter wrote, “The case of sexual assault of elderly lady in Tilak Nagar has been solved. Culprit in this blind case nabbed within 16 hours. Victim’s mobile phone recovered from him.
Accused lives in nearby locality and works as a sweeper.”

The elderly woman’s family members have alleged that police delayed action and did not take their complaint, a charge denied by officials, who said the FIR was registered based on the complaint received.

According to the Delhi Police, the victim’s daughter had initially filed a complaint about the theft of a mobile phone, following which a case of theft was registered.

“Today, sexual assault has been further alleged by the complainant. Relevant sections of law have been added in the FIR and investigation taken up. Victim being provided counselling and all necessary assistance,” Delhi Police said on its Twitter handle on Monday.

Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed in the case. Section 376 and 323 of IPC have been added in the case.
