Delhi Transport Department to Impose Fine on Transport Vehicles Drivers Without a Valid Fitness Certificate

New Delhi, 1 May 2022: The Delhi Transport Department has warned the owners and drivers of transport vehicles, if they are found driving without a valid fitness certificate, fine up to Rs 10,000 and imprisonment will be charged on them.

The transport department has directed the enforcement teams to keep looking for such vehicles on the highways, and a drive will be launched soon to apprehend the violators, according to officials.

The Transport Department in the notice stated, “It has been observed by the Transport department that many owners or drivers, including transport vehicles belonging to government departments, local bodies and public sector units, are plying transport vehicles without valid fitness certificate which is gross violation of The Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, 1988 and rules framed their under.”

Owners and drivers of transport vehicles will be fined ranging from Rs 2,000 to 5,000 for the first offence, followed by fine amounting Rs 5,000 to 10,000 for the second and further offences. In some cases, the driver or owner may also be imprisoned.
