New Delhi, October 27, 2022: Despite people across Delhi celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers, post-Diwali air was relatively clear as compared to previous many years.

Generally, Delhi falls prey to severe air pollution as an aftermath of bursting firecrackers during Diwali. However, meteorogical and climate factors provided some much-needed relief on the day after Diwali.

The festival of lights coincided with the developing Cyclone Sitarang in eastern India.

However, a change in the direction of the Cyclone played a key role in clearing pollution over Delhi and much of North India.

Speaking about the aftermath of Cyclone Sitrang, India Meteorogical Department Chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that, “When Sitrang moved towards Bangladesh, winds from north India moved in that direction. Therefore, it exacerbated the air flow in north India. It also drained out moisture from the region”.
