Delhi: Woman attempts to sell her child for Rs. 2 lakh; held

New Delhi, January 25: A 30-Year-old woman identified as Madhu Singh has been arrested for allegedly trying to sell her one-month-old girl child in Sabzi mandi area of North Delhi to a child trafficking gang on Monday.

According to police, the woman approached a gang of traffickers to sell her girl for Rs 2 Lakh.

Three more persons involved in the case have also been nabbed by the police who were running the racket.

According to police, they received information that a gang was trying to sell an infant and were looking for couples who can “pay well”.

Police said they received information about the racket at the police post at Tis Hazari court complex following which two police personnel posed as a couple and contacted the accused.

The decoy couple, who were two police officials, then reached to Mangolpuri where another woman was present with the infant and her mother, said deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi.

“The deal was then finalised and the decoy couple also paid Rs 50,000 in cash to them. The accused were later caught red-handed in Sabzi Mandi area,” added Kalsi

On probe, photographs of minor children were retrieved from the accused’s mobile phones.
