India, 13th April 2022: In India, about 189.2 million people were malnourished in 2020 according to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2020 report by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation). To tackle this problem, Gurmeet Ram Rahim undertook the food bank initiative, in his organization’s 74th foundation month. Under this initiative, the organization distributed ration to the poor families.

“To help feed thousands of hungry, who face food deprivation, Food Bank is the initiative that exceeds expectations. Volunteers fast once a week, and deposit food in the food banks. This initiative has helped get rid of starvation of lakhs,” says Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is currently in jail. With erasing hunger as one of the priorities in the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, such initiatives would definitely work towards eradicating hunger from the country.

The initiative includes the volunteers of DSS (Dera Sacha Sauda) distributing food to the hungry people under the leadership of Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The DSS organisation is a socio-cultural organisation that preaches and practises humanitarianism and selfless services to the society. They encourage the volunteers to fast for a day in a week and distribute the ration deposited in the food bank.

Over 2029 families across 22 districts in Punjab had access to food under this campaign. They also distributed more than 5000 ration kits to the needy across the country in states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and so on.
