New Delhi, 16th June 2023: Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, today chastised former ally Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray for remaining silent on the Congress’ decision to remove Savarkar and Hedgewar from Karnataka’s school curriculum.
The BJP’s attack on Thackeray’s philosophy and cooperation with the grand old party comes two months after the Shiv Sena leader warned former Congress chairman Rahul Gandhi that Savarkar was similar to God for them and their role model and that his party would not tolerate any insult to him. Thackeray had warned that demeaning Savarkar would cause “cracks” in the opposition alliance.
Fadnavis accused Uddhav Thackeray of surrendering his philosophy to “be in power.” But I inquire of Uddhav Thackeray ji. What is your attitude now, those sitting shoulder to side with Congress in Mahavikas Aghadi? Do you accept the way minority populations are appeased for the sake of power, and will you tolerate Veer Savarkar ji’s insult? “Or should I just settle for the chair?” he asked.
