Devil’s Economy in India

Rajiv Goyal

The earlier governments chose to increase taxes on certain products which were categorised not so good for consumption to dissuade people to consume less instead banning the business of these products. The cigarette, tobacco, pan masala, liquor are such few things. The SC order to shut down all wine shops in vicinity of highways is responded with criticism by different section with weirded logics.

It was the same senses when UP govt decided to close down all illegal abattoirs including 100% ban on beef.

The argument is loss of revenue to govt and unemployment of workers of industry. Is it the actual issue or its loss of large unaccounted wealth generated by few top people of this industry who is actually paying media to run distorted facts & stories. Whether our journos are educated one or they have become too greedy to speak anything even hurting generations or which amounts to promoting illegal & immoral acts in country.

For liquor ban, it is said that government will lose Rs 50000 Cr revenue. Is it such a big amount or even if it is, govt has saved almost in each social scheme more than this by implementing AADHAR.

Has anybody counted opportunity losses in society and to governments due to harmful effect of liquor in terms of deaths , accidents, diseases , hospitalisation, loss of studies to children, deteriorating law & order, domestic violence & crime against women under inebriated conditions.

Similarly on illegal abattoirs, no one is explaining loss of environment, wastage of water, diseases etc.

As far as employment is concerned , how illegal jobs can be considered as opportunities . Tomorrow when Govt will stop spa centres most of which are actually place of immoral acts, drugs , prostitution , theft & dacoity , child trafficking , would the people cry for job loss. Infact people engaged in such acts should be happy that their days of sins are over.

India has millions of opportunities in the field of dairy business, theatres , education & healthcare, organic farming, research & development, fashion designing, sports, traffic & crowd management, garbage & sewage treatment and many other businesses wherein our thousands of startups are working.

However , as informed in media reports, BJP governments are working overnight to defy orders of SC by renaming the highways in city area. Hope good senses prevails and PMO steps into to prevent such over zealous drives of renaming of highways. BJP must not forget that large chunk of voters are women irrespective of caste & religion who have no mercy for liquor shops at any place. Infact BJP must go one step further to ban liquor sale except at limited permit shops like airport / 5 star hotels that too linked to Aadhar card
