Dipa Karmakar becomes the first Indian woman #gymnast to qualify for an #Olympics

NEW DELHI: For the first time, an Indian woman gymnast has qualified for an Olympics.
22-year-old Dipa Karmakar from Tripura secured a place in this year’s Rio Olympic Games by garnering a total score of 52.698 points.
In her first event, the tough Produnova vault, the Indian gymnast scored 15.066 points, the highest number of the 14 competitors. However, a poor show in the uneven bars lowered Karmakar’s overall score, because she was only awarded 11.700 points, to come in second from the bottom.
