DMK allots five seats to MMK for TN poll

Chennai, Mar 25 (PTI) DMK today allocated five Assembly seats to Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) days after it set apart five seats to IUML, a long time ally of the Karunanidhi-led party.

Emerging from the residence of DMK president Karunanidhi here, MMK chief M H Jawahirullah told reporters that his party has been allocated five seats.

“I and DMK chief Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) have signed an electoral agreement to this effect. Further details like identification of seats from where we would contest will be decided later,” Jawahirullah told reporters.

Hailing the DMK-led front as a “victorious combine,” he said people of Tamil Nadu “wanted a change of regime.” With allocation of five seats to MMK, the allocation to Muslim dominated parties now stand at ten.

MMK fought the 2011 Assembly election as a partner of ruling AIADMK and won two seats. However, it switched to the DMK front for the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and drew a blank.

Speaking to reporters, M K Stalin said identification of seats will be done later after due consultations with all partners in the front.
