A massive doctors Mahapanchayat was today organized by Indian Medical Council in Delhi to protest against the NMC bill which is being termed as authoritarian and droconian by different practicing doctors and medical students.

Speaking at the MahaPanchayat former President of IMA Dr. KK Agarwal made special mention of the compensation bylaws that are being proposed as part of NMC bill.

He said, “Error of judgement and difference of judgement is my right. When it comes to compensation, it is patients right and we completely agree with it. But there needs to be some reasonable yardsticks for the same”.

On various discussions around error of judgement he said, “There is also difference of opinion between honorable Supreme court and Hight courts and many times decisions are unturned. So if such thing can happen with them, it can happen with medical fraternity as well”.

Talking of compensation formula being suggested he said, “The formula of compensation being suggested says that 70 minus age multiplied by annual income should be the compensation being offered to patients but it is not acceptable. Because we charge similar fees from both poor and rich. Income should not be a criteria for compensation. We do not accept compensation of crores”.

Detailing about other views he said, “For clinical trials they have come with new formula, for terminal patients( the patient who’s case is critical and death is fixed within 6 months) they have fixed 2 Lakh compensation”.

Concluding he said ‘we want people to fathom if all allopathic doctors go on strike and we give complete charge to Homeopath and Ayurvedic what couod be the condition’.
