DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar writes to the Lt. Governor to settle the salary dues of the sanitation workers
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar has written to Lt. Governor Shri V.K.Saxena drawing his attention to the garbage piles across Delhi, with festivals like Deepawali and Chhath Puja at the door step, and the cases of vector-borne diseases like Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya on the rise to cause distress among the people, as the MCD and the Delhi Government have not cleared the salaries and arrears of the sanitation workers, and pension of the retired employees. He said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has, as usual, announced that Yamuna will be kept clean for devotees to hold the Chhath Puja, but last year too, despite his promise, devotees had to conduct Chhath Puja in the highly polluted waters of the river.
Ch. Anil Kumar pointed out that in the absence of elected Councillors of the MCD, other people’s representatives like MLAs and MPs have become inaccessible to the people to register their complaints, as most of them are on election tour in other States. He said that Delhi Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia, who is the No 1 accused in the Liquor Scam, has been busy destroying evidence to prevent his arrest, Delhi’s upkeep has suffered gravely. He said that more over, Sisodia has been saddled with 18 key portfolios, and governance in all these departments have suffered as a result.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that with the BJP and AAP leaders inaccessible to the common people, and the MCD and Delhi Government doing nothing, harassed people have been approaching the Congress workers and leaders regarding the preparations for Deepawali and Chhath Puja, and Congress workers have been doing their best to keep their areas clean and make arrangements for holding these festivals.
Ch. Anil Kumar that due to the blame-games by the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party without settling the salary dues of the sanitation workers, who have been on strike for the past few days, Delhi has become a huge garbage dump, with piles of waste posing a grave health and pollution hazard to the people.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that Kejriwal, who announced a 15-point Winter Action Plan recently to combat air pollution, has neither bothered to talk to the striking sanitation workers to settle their demands before Deepawali, nor cleared their salary dues which the Delhi Government owes to the MCD, while the corrupt MCD has been swindling its income and resources to deprive the sanitation workers of their wages, with the Deepawali and Chhath Puja festivals at the doorstep. He said that it was shocking that the retired MCD employees have not been paid their pension for the past 8 months, and their dues should be cleared before Deepawali as well.
