New Delhi (07/09/2025): In an enlightening conversation with Ten News Network, Dr. H. Chaturvedi, a renowned Management Guru and Director General of IILM, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, shared his insights on transforming management education through innovative teaching methods, stronger industry-academia linkages, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Under his visionary leadership, IILM has undertaken several strategic initiatives to ensure that management education remains relevant, practical, and impactful. Speaking on the steps taken to innovate teaching at IILM, Dr. Chaturvedi emphasized the importance of aligning academic instruction with industry expectations.

Every year, over 100 companies visit our campus for recruitment. After conducting interviews, they provide us with detailed feedback about our students — areas of strength and areas that need improvement. We carefully document this feedback and use it as a foundation to make necessary changes to our curriculum and teaching methodologies, he explained.

Real-Time Industry Feedback Driving Curriculum Reform

To bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry expectations, IILM has established a continuous feedback loop with recruiters. These insights help the institute fine-tune its curriculum, update pedagogical approaches, and ensure that students are equipped with the latest skills.

Dr. Chaturvedi elaborated that IILM regularly invites industry leaders to conduct lectures, workshops, and practical sessions for students. Many faculty members are also encouraged to engage with industry through conferences and collaborative projects, ensuring that their teaching reflects current market trends.

We are constantly tracking rapid changes in industry and exploring how these can be incorporated into our teaching. One of the most significant areas of focus now is Artificial Intelligence, he said.

AI Integration Across All Management Disciplines

Recognizing the growing influence of AI across all business functions, IILM has taken bold steps to embed AI-related concepts and tools across its MBA curriculum.

Our MBA program consists of 35 subjects over two years. We are encouraging our faculty — whether they teach marketing, HR, finance, or operations — to integrate AI tools into their respective courses, Dr. Chaturvedi noted. He clarified that while IILM is not an engineering institution, its management programs are designed to ensure that students are proficient in the latest digital tools relevant to business. AI tools, which are now accessible through smartphones and often free of charge, are being actively promoted in classrooms.

To support this initiative, the institute is also conducting training sessions for faculty, helping them become well-versed in AI applications so they can, in turn, deliver technologically enriched education to students. The industry demands professionals who are smart, creative, technologically aware, and excellent communicators. Our responsibility is to ensure that our graduates meet these expectations, he added.

Message to Educators: Empower Teachers, Embrace Technology

When asked about his message to educators and policymakers across the country, Dr. Chaturvedi strongly advocated for systemic support to teachers.

Leaders and policymakers in schools, colleges, and universities must innovate to enhance the role and status of teachers. We must create policies that are in favor of educators — providing them with adequate facilities, technological tools, and a conducive work environment, he said.

He stressed the need for infrastructure improvements, such as providing teachers with laptops, ergonomic classrooms, and housing options near their institutions, noting that commuting challenges often add unnecessary stress.

Dr. Chaturvedi called for a departure from outdated teaching practices such as traditional chalk-and-blackboard methods. In the digital age, students are captivated by smartphones and interactive content. If teaching in classrooms also becomes interactive and visual — using smartboards and digital tools — it can greatly enhance engagement and learning outcomes. Smart classrooms need smart teachers, he concluded.

Dr. Chaturvedi’s commitment to redefining management education at IILM reflects a broader vision for Indian higher education — one that is technologically current, industry-aligned, and centered on the empowerment of educators. His message is clear: to shape future-ready students, we must first invest in future-ready teachers and classrooms.
