Dr A. K.Gadpayle encourages for quitting tobacco in New Delhi

To remark the World Tobacco Day on May 31, P. G.I.M.E.R organised a conference on “Quit Today Tobacco” within RML Hospital premises and Dr. A. K.Gadpayle, Medical Superintendent of PGIMER encouraged the people to quit tobacco.
He stated that, person has to be willing to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. Without motivation, nothing can help. But, just using gums and patches is not enough, he added.

As per the reports, Tobacco also puts people at risk for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), which severely compromises the quality of life as patients need oxygen, home care. It also makes working difficult. COPD kills more people in India than cancer and heart attacks put together. While smoking is bad for the lungs and the heart, it also effects non-smokers.
