New Delhi, December 6, 2022: Former Union Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma, M.P. of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 17th Lok Sabha from Gautam Buddh Nagar Lok Sabha Seat, recently featured on “The Journey” show wherein he spoke in detail about his public and personal life with famous designer, politician and host Shaina NC.
Dr Mahesh Sharma, also a physician by profession, hails from a small village in Alwar, Rajasthan, and made a distinct name for himself in both field of politics and medicine.
Dr Sharma talked about the hardships he faced while growing up.
“I pursued my early education in Rajasthan. My father, who was a teacher, later shifted to Delhi and I was enrolled in a school which was established in 1869. Later, I pursued Medicine from Safdarjung Hospital and Delhi University’s Maulana Azad Medical College,” said Dr Sharma while shedding light on his educational journey.
“While I was in medical college in Delhi, I came in contact with Arun Jaitley Ji who was a member of the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad,” he further added.
While shedding light on his entry into the world of politics, Dr Sharma said, “Initially, I did not wish to enter politics. I was a Swayamsevak since I was 14 years old and have been a part of numerous organizations including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, among others I entered politics with an influence from Sushma Swaraj Ji and Arun Jaitley Ji.”
Before joining politics, Dr Mahesh Sharma had already established himself as a revered medical professional along with his wife, Dr Uma Sharma, a gynecologist. He also talked about how his decision to become a politician was met with initial resistance from his family but they eventually came around.
In his conversation with Shaina NC, he also spoke about how politics has helped him greatly contribute to the society. “The day I entered politics, I handed over the reins of my medical practice to my family. My meetings and interactions with the Giants of Noida and NGOs changed my life. I started my professional life working as a medical professional with the NGO. My understanding of poverty while working with the NGO inspired me to give back to the society by going into social and political field,” he said.
“Watching our PM Narendra Modi in the Sansad Bhawan after becoming Prime Minister in 2014 served as a huge turning point. From my village, I was the first person to enter politics. I was also appointed as a Union Minister for Culture and Tourism and Civil Aviation after meeting with PM Modi. For my next term, I was voted into power by a victory margin of 3.5 lakhs and I am serving as ‘Prabhari’ for the State of Tripura currently,” he said talking about his achievements.
He also heaped praises on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the latter has established strong connections with the population of India. “Our PM and his thoughtful initiatives have provided poor Indians with houses, gas connection, electricity, toilets, and so many more facilities,” he stressed while talking about the current government.
In his constituency, Dr Sharma has paved the way for the Jewar Airport project worth Rs. 30,000 crores. He has also helped accelerate development in his constituency through other significant projects including the Pt. Deendayal Upadhay Institute of Archaeology, improvement of the NOIDA and Delhi metro network, and development of three national highways, amongst other projects .
In a message to the youngsters of India, Dr Sharma said, “Empathy is the crux of my life. If you empathize, you can comprehend the pain of the poor man. We should also have a burning desire to give back to the society and to the humanity.”
