New Delhi : DMRC completed its 16 successful years today on 24th December. Managing Director Dr. Mangu Singh addressed the session and discussed some of the important facts related to Delhi Metro.
When asked about the reasons behind the boost in the prices of traveling in Delhi Metro, Dr. Mangu said,
“What if I ask you all the reason behind increment in your salary? I have got many queries related to this but unfortunately I am not the authorized person to decide the fare for metro travel.”
The concept of a mass rapid transit for New Delhi first emerged from a traffic and travel characteristics study which was carried out in the city in 1969. Over the next several years, many official committees by a variety of Government departments were commissioned to examine issues related to technology, route alignment, and Governmental jurisdiction.
Construction started in 1998, and the first section, on the Red Line, opened in 2002. The development of the network was divided into phases, Phase I containing 3 lines was completed by 2006, and Phase II in 2011. Phase III is almost constructed, and is scheduled to be completed this year.
When Dr. Mangu Singh was asked that, “Will DMRC become the largest metro link in the world ?” He said,
“No, the idea was never to make it the world’s largest, but, to give India its first urban transportation network, and prove to the rest of the world that India’s capability and competency is no joke”
