At present, Korea accounts for only 6% of India’s FDI; Dr. Udit Raj believes that now is the time to change our attitude and start looking towards developed Eastern countries like Korea and Japan as the scope is much higher; we need to change our mindset. Our business, trade and tourism relationship is much stronger with the USA and European countries, whereas Eastern sector is yet to be tapped. Korea is culturally connected to India; in 48 AD, a Princess of Ayodhya sailed to Korea and established the Kim dynasty; currently, 1/10th of the population of Korea is believed to be of the same lineage. When our Hon’ble Prime Minister was on a visit to Korea, the proposal to establish an Indian village in Korea was mooted and received strong support. The interest which our Prime Minister has generated in our Government’s flagship programs such as Make in India, Digital India, Start Up India etc. have brought fruit with this delegation coming to India; they are looking to invest several millions into the Indian growth story in the coming months. We are moving culturally closer and business and trade links have also improving due to such visits.
