Draft Electoral Roll Revision in Bihar: Over 2.4 Lakh Claims and Objections Filed
New Delhi, August 31, 2025 — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that more than 2.4 lakh claims and objections have been received during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll in Bihar. The draft electoral roll was published on August 1, 2025, and political parties as well as electors have been actively participating in the verification process.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, copies of the draft roll were shared with representatives of all major political parties to ensure thorough scrutiny. Political parties were encouraged to check the lists carefully and file claims if any eligible voter’s name was missing. The last date for submitting claims and objections is September 1, 2025.
As of August 31, 2025, state political parties have filed 128 claims and objections with the ECI. These include 15 requests for inclusion and 103 for exclusion from the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has filed 10 requests for inclusion.
Meanwhile, a much larger number of submissions have come directly from citizens. A total of 2,40,891 claims and objections were lodged by electors—33,326 seeking inclusion and 2,07,565 for exclusion. Of these, 38,342 have already been resolved within the stipulated timeframe.
Additionally, the Commission has received over 15.32 lakh forms from new electors who have attained the age of 18 years or above. Out of these, 81,073 applications have already been processed.
Officials confirmed that all pending claims and objections will be disposed of in due course, ensuring that Bihar’s electoral rolls are accurate and up-to-date ahead of future elections.
