Drama Fest Celebrated at DPS Indirapuram

Ghaziabad: Delhi Public School Indirapuram organized a Drama Competition for its teachers. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Santosh Bansal, Pro-Vice Chairperson DPS Indirapuram. The occasion was also graced by Mrs. Anita Chaudhary. The competition was judged by a panel of experts comprising Mr. Andrew Hoffland, a well-known figure in the world of advertisement &theatre and Mrs. Geeta Shankar, former Head Mistress DPS Indirapuram.

The school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai, in her address said that the competition was an ideal platform for teachers to not only showcase their theatrical skills but also bond together as colleagues and friends. She further emphasized that it was a great opportunity for creative expression and team work.

The mood for the event was set two days before when the teachers were divided into groups and assigned themes from different genres like comedy, mythology, street plays and adaptations of famous Hindi/English stories/plays. In order to give them complete exposure to the various aspects of staging a show and event-management, group leaders assigned various duties for different teachers forcostume, make up, prop management, publicity etc.

The teachers came up with some brilliant performances ranging from mythological treasures like ‘Krishna Leela’ and ‘Ganga EkAstha’, to modern day adaptations of famous stories. They also presented some currentsocial issues with great conviction and sensitivity. As some groups tried their hand at comedy, their comic capers entertained the audience thoroughly leaving them rolling with laughter. It was indeed amazing to watch each team take the stage one after the other, bubbling with immense energy and enthusiasm.

The highlight of the occasion was a show-stealing performance by the school Principal, Mrs. Meeta Rai, Vice-Principal, Mrs. Sangeeta Hajela and the Headmistresses Ms. Rohini Duggal, Ms. Seema Kaur, Ms. Priya John and Ms. RupaNijhawan. The superb act subtly brought forth the beautiful message of love, commitment and contentment which bring true domestic bliss in marital relationship.

Group 6 was awarded the first prize for their powerful depiction of teenage troubles through the medium of a street play, ‘NayiDishayein’. Mrs. Seema Bhatnagar, TGT Hindi was awarded the Best Actress for her outstanding performance, while Mr. PrasantaKalita PGT Art was awarded the best actor in a comic role. Ms. Gunjan Singh, PRT English bagged the award for best narration. The Chief Guest Mrs. Santosh Bansal and the honoured judge for the day, Mr. Andrew Hoffland commended the efforts of the teachers for putting up such a grand performance in a short span of time.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the school Vice-Principal Mrs. Sangeeta Hajela who expressed her feelings through the medium of poetry, thus giving a befitting end to the gala event.
