New Delhi, August 2, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a meeting of BJP-led NDA MPs from West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand on Monday night, emphasized the importance of connecting with every section of society. He highlighted various development initiatives of the central government as the alliance gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

During the meeting, PM Modi asserted that his government’s decision to ban triple talaq has significantly enhanced the overall sense of security for Muslim women. He pointed out that the ban on instant divorce among Muslim men, criminalized by the government, has been a significant boost for Muslim women.

Encouraged by the positive impact of the triple talaq ban, the Prime Minister urged BJP leaders to reach out to women from the minority community during the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan. The festival, symbolizing the bond between brothers and sisters, is set to take place on August 30 this year.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill was passed by Parliament in 2019, declaring the practice of instant triple talaq illegal and punishable by imprisonment for the husband.

PM Modi has been vocal about his government’s efforts to bring about reforms for Muslim women. In his recent ‘Mann ki Baat’ address, he highlighted the significant transformation witnessed with over 4,000 Muslim women performing Haj this year without a ‘mehram,’ owing to changes made in the Haj policy over the past few years.

During the meeting with NDA MPs, PM Modi also commented on the opposition’s attempt to unite under the name INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) after their earlier moniker, UPA, was tarnished by various scams. He expressed confidence that the people would not accept the rebranding and asserted that the opposition cannot wash off its “sins of corruption and misgovernance.”

The BJP has divided NDA MPs into regional clusters and PM Modi is expected to address them separately during the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. He urged MPs to spread a positive message about the government’s work and spend maximum time reaching out to people.
