Enhancing agriculture technology can free half of agriculture land in India says NITI CEO Amitabh Kant

Internet and Mobile Association of India is organising 12 India Digital Summit in New Delhi. Eminent speakers from all over the country shared deep insights of the digital sector throughout the day. The summit happening with the theme of Digital India : A Trillion Dollar Economy by 2022 will continue for another day tomorrow.

Speaking at IAMAI Digital India Summit, NITI Ayog Chairman Amitabh Kant said, “Indian users consume more mobile data than US and China put together”. He further revealed that 35% of Indian population is using internet and 65% data Consumption is coming from mobile.

He said, “While data is the new oil the opportunity also largely remains untapped. I am sure that Artificial Intelligence will give rise to huge opportunities for all”.

He also admitted that workforce digitisation is still at very low level in country.

Talking of fintech, Amitabh Kant said that there have been 145 billion digital transactions in 2017 and numbers will grow further every year.

Speaking further at IAMAI Digital India Summit NITI Aayog CEO pressed for larger role of citizens in making India clean and smart. He said, “We Indian’s litter everywhere and it is a mindset issue. We don’t segregate waste at household level and without this waste cannot be minimised. Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan is a behavioral campaign. We can’t have smart cities without smart people. Government can’t do everything alone”.

“We put garbage in Ganga all the time and expect Government to clean it, such things can’t work”, he further added.

NITI Aayog CEO also pressed for reforms in Agriculture Sector and said, “If we can produce rice and wheat with same yield as China, we can free half of our agriculture land. Hence enhancing agriculture technology has great potential”.
