We are witnessing the world embrace AI, and there is a lot of curiosity and uncertainty about its potential, he added.
He also acknowledged the contributions of Prof. DP Singh, Chancellor of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, describing him as a “seasoned professional” and “game changer in technical education.” Dr. Chaturvedi noted that India is making significant strides in the field of technical education, and the inclusion of programs like MBA and BBA in regulatory bodies such as AICTE is a testament to this.
Special Addresses by EPSI Leaders
Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President of EPSI and Vice President of VIT University, delivered his address, drawing attention to the vital role AI that will play across multiple sectors. He described the book as a profound work that covers a wide array of industries, from education to healthcare to fashion.
AI is more than just a tool; it has the potential to enhance human capabilities. The book highlights the critical role of institutions and educators in adapting to AI-driven changes, Dr. Viswanathan said. He also spoke about the importance of retaining the human touch in education, noting that while AI can generate personalized learning experiences, it cannot replace the essential role of teachers in nurturing students.
Chief Guest Address – Prof. DP Singh
Prof. DP Singh, Former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Advisor to the Uttar Pradesh Government, was the chief guest at the event. In his speech, Prof. Singh discussed the rapid advancement of AI, drawing parallels to the challenges faced during the transition to online education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Just as we adapted to online learning out of necessity, AI is now an essential part of our future. Its potential is immense – it can solve complex problems, enhance productivity, and even revolutionize fields like healthcare and the arts. However, we must ensure that its use is ethical and transparent, Prof. Singh remarked. He further stressed the need for AI to be developed responsibly, with a focus on human values and empathy.
Author’s Address
The authors, Prof. TG Sitharam and Yogi Kochhar, took the stage to share their thoughts on the book and the future of AI.
Prof. TG Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), expressed his excitement about the growing interest in AI and its potential to revolutionize education, industry, and society. AI is not just artificial; it is a free form of intelligence that will shape the future of mankind, Prof. Sitharam said. Drawing inspiration from Bill Gates’ famous statement that AI could replace doctors and teachers, Prof. Sitharam explained that AI’s capabilities are rapidly advancing, but it cannot replace human empathy and emotional intelligence.
He further emphasized the need for India to embrace AI, collaborate with global leaders, and develop policies that support innovation. We must build AI research hubs within our universities and ensure that AI is not just a tool for development but a means to enhance human potential, he urged.
Co-author Yogi Kochhar, known for his work in happiness studies and technology, provided a unique perspective on AI, stressing the importance of innovation and application. We need more than just theoretical knowledge; we need people who can create practical applications. India must move from being a follower to a leader in AI, Kochhar asserted. He highlighted that AI is not only a technological shift but a paradigm change in how humans interact with the world.
Special Remarks and Insights from Education Leaders
Dr Sanjay Srivastava, MRIU, offered his thoughts on the event, noting that while inspiration is invisible, its impact is always visible. He expressed his belief that AI’s role in education will be to complement human learning and development rather than replace it.
Dr O P Kharbanda, M S Ramaiah University, discussed the application of AI in healthcare. AI can never replace human doctors, but it can enhance their capabilities and help make the healthcare system more efficient, he explained.
Dr Ravi Kumar Jain, IILM University, Gurugram, spoke about the relevance of human will in the AI-driven world.
Fireside Chat and Interactive Session
A fireside chat between Prof. TG Sitharam and Yogi Kochhar followed, where they delved deeper into AI’s potential and its impact on various industries. Kochhar discussed the need for innovation and scaling it up for real-world application, emphasizing that India’s younger generation must adapt to this technological revolution.
Chetan Sharma, Addl Solicitor General, Delhi High Court shared his reflections on the book and its thematic approach, while also drawing attention to the importance of balance between modern technology and ancient wisdom.
