New Delhi, Dec 2, 2022: Three months after leaving Congress following his scathing remarks against the Gandhis, Jaiveer Shergill has now been appointed as spokesperson by the BJP on Friday. The party has announced new roles for several prominent leaders who have switched over from Congress.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar have been now made members of the BJP’s National Executive.

The party also included UP minister Swatantra Dev Singh, former Uttarakhand BJP chief Madan Kaushik, former Congress leader Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, and former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia in the grouping.

While leaving his former party, Jaiveer Shergill had slammed the Gandhis, saying the “vision of the party’s decision-makers is no longer in sync” with the aspirations of the youth. The 39-year-old lawyer was among the youngest and most prominent spokespersons of the Congress.

Shergill’s resignation was the third in August after two veterans, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Anand Sharma, quit party posts in their home states.

Amarinder Singh had resigned from the Congress in November last year and had begun a new party ahead of this year’s Punjab elections, before going on to merge it with the BJP earlier this year. Sunil Jakhar quit the party in May.

This year, former Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Ashwani Kumar and RPN Singh quit the Congress party.
