Exhibitors Hail Handwoven Expo 2025 as a Global Gateway for Indian Weaves

New Delhi News (09/08/2025): The India International Handwoven Expo 2025, organised by the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC) under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, concluded on a high note at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Held from 7–9 August to coincide with National Handloom Day, the exclusive B2B “Big Ticket” event brought together 200 exhibitors and over 100 overseas buyers, offering Indian handloom artisans and exporters a rare opportunity to connect with the global market.

Speaking to Ten News Network, exhibitors praised the event as a world-class platform that not only showcased India’s weaving heritage but also opened new doors for business expansion.

HEPC Vice Chairman and Sri Lakshmi Exports founder V. Ramesh highlighted handloom’s stature as India’s second-largest industry after agriculture, with each state producing its own distinctive products — from Jammu’s elegant shawls to intricate regional fabrics. “The Ministry of Textiles has given us a wonderful platform to display our products to the world. Small artisans are now going global, and the response from international buyers has been encouraging. My company specialises in home furnishing textiles, including tablecloths and napkins, which are already being used in major stores worldwide. Events like this will further boost our reach,” he said. He also noted that government-backed initiatives, such as festive discounts on handloom products during Gandhi Jayanti, are helping to strengthen the industry.

Rakesh Jain of Tax India drew attention to the sustainability and recycling trends driving the sector. “We have exhibited products made with a focus on sustainability — recycling old fabrics into new yarn at Panipat, which is then used to create fresh products. The global market values recycling, and our work is aligned with that demand. However, the recent 50% tariff imposed by the US — which accounts for half of our market — has caused challenges. We are now working with other exporters to explore new countries and markets, with HEPC playing a major role in this transition,” he explained.

Adish Jain of A&K Exports appreciated the diversity of buyers attending the event. “We have seen strong interest from Russia, the UAE, Europe, and Australia. Our focus is on expanding into the Middle East and Europe, while also strengthening our presence in Australia. HEPC’s constant support, from logistics to promotion, makes this event an excellent platform for growth. The presence of government officials and ministers also inspires confidence in the industry’s future,” he said.

The exhibitors collectively agreed that the expo’s format, timing, and international reach made it a valuable opportunity to strengthen India’s position in the global textile market. With its blend of tradition, innovation, and global networking, India International Handwoven Expo 2025 has reaffirmed its role as a vital bridge between India’s weaving heritage and the world.
