Expected a Young or Consensus Candidate for President says Pratibha Patil

Erstwhile President of India Pratibha Patil on Monday said, “I was expecting a youth or consensus candidate for the Presidential Polls”.

She was speaking on the nomination of Ram Nath Kovind as Presidential candidate by the BJP. 

She further added that she would have been happy if it was a consensus candidate is President is the first citizen of country and the election process would have been smooth if all parties were taken into confidence before his nomination.

Pratibha Patil made these remarks during a rare appearance at a private news channels special coverage on Presidential elections.

It must be noted that it was a similar surprise by Sonia Gandhi when Pratibha  Patil was announced as Presidential candidate back in 2007. Let alone opposition, even coalition partners didn’t knew much about Pratibha Patil when her name was proposed during a meeting called by Congress Chief.
