#Haryana approves 2nd phase of KMP expressway
CHANDIGARH: Haryana government has given go ahead to the construction of second phase of Kundli-Manesar-Palewal (KMP) expressway.
A sub-committee of the cabinet headed by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday approved the 83km Kundli-Manesar section of the expressway which will be completed in two and a half years. The work on the first phase — Manesar-Palwal section — has already been started and is likely to be completed in nine months.
Vineet Garg, managing director of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), informed the committee that a six-lane expressway would come up under the Rs 1,680-crore project instead of the earlier proposed four-lane road.
The work on 136-km-long Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway slated to pass through five districts — Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal — has been put on fast track with the Khattar government giving approval for resuming work on the project.
The work on the expressway was earlier allotted to the concessionaire KMP Expressway Limited in January, 2006. According to the government, the concessionaire failed to complete the work till December 2014. Few months back, the government terminated the agreement with the concessionaire following the orders of the Supreme Court.
The officials said the road would not only held create high speed link between northern Haryana and southern districts like Gurgaon, Faridabad and Palwal, but also decongest the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi as the traffic from the northern parts of the country destined to other regions need not pass through it.
