Fashion auditions for ‘CVS’ students evokes overwhelming response

Fashion Auditions for close to 200 students of the First year batch of College of Vocational Studies (CVS) were conducted on 8th August’2017. The auditions were choreographed by ‘Manthan Fashion Society’ under the able guidance of cultural committee convener Anuradha Bawa Singh and senior college faculty Ratna Kaushik.
Buzzing with activities, the college wore a festive look with a large number of students making a beeline to be a part of the splendid spectacle that was high on style quotient, panache and attitude.
Conceptualized by Mumbai based Actor-Anchor Rhythm Datta and choreographed by CVS alumnus and College Fashion Society Director Prashant Chaudhary, freshers cutting across different course streams enthusiastically participated in the fashion auditions.
Over the years while CVS has carved a niche for its popular vocational courses, the co-curricular activities undertaken by teachers, mentors and the students have helped in adding more feathers to the cap of the college. Incidentally CVS that came into being in 1972 enjoys a unique reputation of being the only college that was set up directly by the Delhi University.
The four member jury that judged the performance of the students comprised Latika Chopra (Fashion Designer from Dubai), Bipin Sharma (Consulting Editor and senior Media Consultant), Sapna Oswal (Actor, Anchor and Fashion Analyst) and Dharmender Paruthi (Owner- UDM Events).
Fashion Analyst Sapna Oswal was all praise for the students and the mentors as she remarked, “Albeit majority of the students who participated in the auditions were walking the ramp for the first time, their confidence levels stunned all of us. Getting selected or not getting selected is not important…what really matters is the sincere effort that one puts in a particular assignment or project. On a personal note, I strongly believe that a substantial number of students who took part in the auditions would surely make a mark in their lives. I wish all of them the very best in their future endeavours.”
Among the senior students from the college who coordinated the fashion auditions were Eesh Kharbanda, Saloni Hinduja, Ashok Panwar and Gurpreet Singh to name a few.
Evaluating the audition process, Saloni Hinduja said, “The fashion auditions conducted by our college for freshers will not only help in overall personality development, but also help us shortlist the best candidates for representing the college at Inter-college competitions and fests like the ones organized at BITS Pilani every year.”
Eesh Kharbanda, final year student of CVS added, “The reason why CVS has been continually excelling in myriad inter-college fests and competitions is due to the colossal synergy between the teaching faculty, the students and mentors. Special gratitude to our college faculty as well as mentors Rhythm Datta and Prashant Chaudhary.”
In a brief chat, senior faculty member Anuradha Bawa Singh informed, “At CVS, it has been our sincere endeavor to help bring the best out of our students. For achieving our mission, we have diligently strived to blend a healthy academic ambience with myriad co-curricular activities. These activities range from NCC to NSS, sports, dance, music, writing and so on. Being a firm believer of holistic education, our Principal lays colossal emphasis on all round development of a student, and ensures that he or she inherits and integrates the best of human values and cultural traditions, besides being good with academics. We look forward to a meaningful interaction and association of learners and teachers. We firmly believe that Class room teaching learning and teaching has to be supplemented and complemented by the extracurricular development of the student.”
Rhythm Datta, the inspiring force behind the formation of ‘Manthan Fashion Society’ of CVS in 2008 has ever since played a significant role in grooming the talent of the college students of the fashion and the cultural society of the college. Interacting with the Media, Rhythm said, “I commence by commending the sterling role played by Dr. Inder Jeet Dagar (Principal of CVS) in providing efficient all round academic and administrative leadership. Madam Ratna Kaushik and Anuradha Bawa Singh as integral component of the college cultural activities, deserve all round plaudits for raising the overall level of the co-curricular activities of CVS. We feel euphoric and proud that our college has consistently been winning the major fashion competitions since year 2009. CVS alumnus Prashant Chaudhary has worked tirelessly in his role as the Fashion Director of ‘Manthan’ since the last couple of years. There is great synergy between ‘Manthan Fashion Society’ and our Cultural Society named ‘Reverie’. When it comes to extracurricular activities, student’s enthusiasm knows no bounds. We have societies for commerce, economics, and Finance, besides having an Investment cell and a management society. Implying that we have a society for almost each and every type of extracurricular activity and subject, all managed by the students. CVS organizes a three days inter college fest titled ‘Tattva’ every year which has gained lot of popularity.”
Fashion Director of Manthan Society, Prashant Chaudhary opined, “Participating in auditions before a large audience, helps students conquer their inherent stage fear, and thus become more confident in their life. For the Auditions, students do a lot of practice which in turn, helps them overcome their flaws, and become near perfect. The concept of appointing mentors by colleges has been playing a pivotal role in honing the talent of young students. The mentors are usually the ex-students of the college who are selected by the teaching faculty based on their due merit, passion and understanding in their respective field.”
