Fatal Accident on Mumbai-Bangalore Highway: Four Dead, 22 Injured

New Delhi (India), April 23, 2023: A tragedy struck early on Sunday morning on the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway in Pune, as a private passenger bus en route to Mumbai was rear-ended by a truck, resulting in four fatalities and 22 injuries.

The accident occurred at Jambhulwadi, near Swaminarayan Temple in Narhe Ambegaon, after the truck’s brakes allegedly failed. The bus had been ferrying passengers from Kolhapur to Dombivli in Mumbai.

Inspector Vijay Kumbhar of the Bharti Vidyapeeth police station confirmed that the deceased included two men and two women, while the injured have been hospitalized across various medical facilities. The truck flipped onto its side as a consequence of the collision.

The Pune Fire Brigade control room revealed that rescuers extricated 18 passengers from the damaged bus. The Narhe area witnessed two further accidents on the same day; first, a truck that had halted following an engine failure was hit by another truck from behind, and later, a truck carrying chemical powder suffered brake failure and hit three parked vehicles, causing damage and injuring its driver.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, with officials seeking to determine the cause of the accident. Such accidents serve as a reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for vigilance by all road users.
