Ghaziabad: A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in Ghaziabad on Wednesday after her father was humiliated by her school staff over non-payment of fees. The tragedy unfolded in Ghookna area of Nandgram, which falls under the limits of the Sihani Gate police station.

The body of the girl, identified by police as Jasmine, was found hanging from an iron grille above a window inside their house with a stole around the neck. The incident took place when her father, Bhaiya Ratan Singh Tomar, had been taken by cops to the Sihani Gate police station for having allegedly misbehaved with a couple of women staff members of her school.

According to police, Tomar, a supervisor with a security agency in Ghaziabad, had been confronted earlier in the day by the two women staff members of his daughter’s school. The two women told the police that Jasmine, who was in Class IX of the private school in Sewa Nagar of Ghaziabad, had not paid her fees for the past three months. The women said they had gone to Tomar’s house to demand Rs 12,000 that was due as fees to the school.

The police said Tomar and the school staff members had reportedly got into a heated argument in his house in Ghookna. The women called the PCR and the police took away all three of them to the police station. That’s when the girl killed herself, the police said.

No case had been registered with regard to the girl’s death till late on Wednesday night. The girl did not leave any suicide note behind. Police said they were examining the claims made by the staff members that Tomar had hurled abuses at and misbehaved with them. Cops were also verifying the school’s claims about the dues. The girl’s body, meanwhile, was sent for a postmortem.
