FICCI welcomes Cabinet approval on relief package for telecom sector
NEW DELHI, 15 September 2021: FICCI welcomes the relief package approved by the Union Cabinet today for the telecom sector, along with several structural reforms to strengthen the sector. India is the world’s second-largest telecommunications market with a subscriber base of 1.16 billion and has registered strong growth in the last decade. COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the critical importance that telecommunications infrastructure plays in keeping businesses, governments, and societies connected and running during a global crisis. The Indian telecom sector has played a vital role during these tough times and will continue to play a major role in India’s GDP in the coming years.
While welcoming the decision, Ms Anjali Hans, Co-Chair, ICT and Mobile Manufacturing Committee, FICCI said, “FICCI and its telecom members would like to thank the Government of India, for approving the relief package for the nation’s telecom sector, along with several structural reforms to strengthen the sector. Given the crucial role of the telecom sector, this is a welcomed step towards reigniting the spark among the telcos.”
