New Delhi (India), 12th May 2023: On the sidelines of the G7 Finance Minister Central Bank Governors meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) managing director K Georgieva on Friday.
FM Sitharaman is visiting Japan to attend the G7 summit which is being held in Niigata. On the sidelines of the G7FMCBG meeting, Sitharaman also met with her Brazilian counterpart, Haddad Fernando.
Fernando praised India’s G20 presidency and its leadership on major global economic concerns, according to a tweet from the finance ministry.
The two ministers talked about infrastructure, multilateral development banks (MDBs), debt vulnerabilities, and digital public infrastructure (DPI).
Sitharaman also expressed her support for Brazil’s G20 chairmanship in 2024. The South American country will preside over the G20 from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2024.
Sitharaman also met with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong.
Both ministers discussed ways to improve India-Singapore cooperation on subjects such as digital payment gateways, food security, green transition, skill development, crypto assets, MDB reforms, and pandemic preparedness.
