Pakistan, August 22, 2022: Pakistan Police on Sunday registered an FIR against former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act(ATA) for allegedly threatening the country’s judiciary and police force.

Khan has been accused of threatening a judge of the Pakistan court and police officers of the Islamabad Police during a rally in the capital.

The FIR states that the ex-PM had threatened sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry and police officers at the rally to “terrorize” the judicial system and police force.

Khan lost power after a no-confidence motion was passed against him. He has been staging popular anti-government protests, escalating political tensions in the country as he seeks to return to the office.

Security personnel has been deployed near his residence ever since the FIR has been lodged and the roads leading to his house have also been blocked. His supporters have been surrounding his home to potentially stop the police from reaching to him.

Khan, while addressing a public gathering on 20th August, had threatened to file cases against top police officials, a female magistrate, and his political opponents over the treatment meted out to his aide, Shahbaz Gill who was arrested last week on charges of sedition.

If found guilty, Imran Khan could be facing several years in jail. Recently, he moved the Islamabad High Court and sought pre-arrest bail in the case.
