New Delhi, July 15, 2023: In a significant development, Supreme Court Collegium has put forth the names of four Additional Judges of the Kerala High Court for permanent appointment. The recommended judges are Justice Basant Balaji, Justice Chandrasekharan Kartha Jayachandran, Justice Sophy Thomas, and Justice Puthen Veedu Gopala Pillai Ajithkumar.
The decision to recommend their permanent appointment was made unanimously by the Kerala High Court Collegium on March 17, 2023. Both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Kerala have concurred with this recommendation.
To ensure a thorough assessment of the judges’ suitability for permanent positions, the Collegium sought the opinion of judges from the Supreme Court who are well-acquainted with the functioning of the Kerala High Court. This evaluation process was conducted in accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure.
After careful scrutiny and evaluation of the relevant material, the Collegium has concluded that Justices Basant Balaji, Chandrasekharan Kartha Jayachandran, Sophy Thomas, and Puthen Veedu Gopala Pillai Ajithkumar possess the merit and suitability required for appointment as permanent judges.
The recommended appointments, once approved, will establish these judges as permanent members of the esteemed Kerala High Court, ensuring stability and continuity in the administration of justice within the state.
